What is it all about?

THE BEST INVENTION SINCE DISHWASHERS AND DUCT TAPE!!!
A resource for overworked, under pampered, well deserving parent's created by the two smartest women alive!! Barbara Montagne & Christina Fellure. (Hey...we created it!!)
The SBC is a database of TEENAGE BABYSITTER'S.....yes sit down...we found the rare and elusive Red Cross certified teenagers. As these are teenager's they do have school first and therefore can not work during school hours.
And what's better than that? They don't expect you to pay the equivilant of your first born or a car or mortgage payment!

Please note that Barbi & Chrissy are strictly volunteers and are unable to man the email 24/7. Please understand that this means the more notice you are able to give us, the easier it will be to find you the sitter of your dreams!

Are you a teenager reading this? Wanna join......of course you do!! You are a teenager and you like money right? You can email us too!

*Disclaimers-The SBC is not affiliated with Spangdahlem AB, but has been authorized to start this project.
The SBC and/or Spangdahlem AB will not be held responsible for any possible damages or accidents occuring while a babysitter is in your home. The SBC is a resource and therefore, the sitter's do not work for the SBC.

FAQ For Parent's

Q) How does this service work?
A) Send an email to the SBC (spangbabysittersclub@googlemail.com) with the following:
*Date sitter is needed IN SUBJECT LINE
*Times-from when to when
*How many kids and ages
*Where you are located
*Whether you prefer a boy or girl
*Phone number for sitter to contact you
*Do we have your Retaining Parent form on file? If not, we will email one to you. Just read, sign, scan and email it back to us. After we receive it, we will begin a search for your sitter.
(For first time users ~ As we must have your RPF back prior to our search, requests made less then seven days before date needed are likely not to be able to be filled.)

The SBC will then contact a sitter to suit your needs and have the sitter contact you.

We encourage our parents to request a sitter early so you have time to meet the teen assigned to your request prior to the babysitting date. Requests that are sent less than 4 days prior to the date needed are very difficult to fill. It is recommended to make a request no less than 7 days prior to the date needed.

Q) Do I need to pick up and drop off the sitter?
A) Transportation is organized strictly between you and the sitters parents directly. Not through the SBC. German law states that you are not allowed to drive until you are 18 years old. Therefore, none of our sitters drive.

Q) How much do your sitter's charge?
A) 1-2 children~$5 per hour
Each additional child~$2.50 per child per hour
You are welcome to give more if you find the sitter did a job well done.

Q) Are the sitter's certified in CPR?
A) As per base regulations, the sitter's are asked to attend babysitter training through the Red Cross. Some of our sitters have taken the extra step and have completed the Advanced Sitters course. This includes certification in infant/child CPR.

Q) My friends and I would like our kids watched at the same house. Is this ok?
A) Yes, as long as each parent has a Retaining Parent form on file.

Q) When do I hear from the babysitter?
A) Once you receive an email from us stating that we have found a sitter for your request, that sitter has 24 hours to contact you. If you have not heard from them by then, please let us know.

Q) Do the sitter's only babysit on Spang?
A) No. We have sitter's on base and off.

Q) Can they come to my home?
A) Actually, this is required. It is against policy to have the sitter's babysit your children in their home.

Q) Do you have boy babysitter's?
A) Yes!

Q) How old are the sitter's in the database?
A) Between 12-16 with the majority being 13 and 14 yr olds.

Q) I have a teenager that enjoys babysitting. Can they be added to your database?
A) Absolutely!! Just send an email to the addy listed above and we will send the info we need.

Q) Is this program authorized by the base?
A) We wouldn't have it any other way! We have the full support of Mara Wight, the A&FRC, the SSEMC and many other organizations.

Q) If a babysitter breaks something while in my home, can I hold you responsible?
A) No. We have a liability disclaimer that states the babysitters do NOT work for the SBC and that the SBC will not be held responsible for such things. (please see the Liability Waiver)

Q) Am I guaranteed a babysitter?
A) Unfortunately, no. We can not guarantee that anyone will be available for your requested date and time.
The more notice you are able to provide us, the more probable the outcome. Last minute requests are extremely difficult to fill and, in most cases, are unable to be accomadated.

Q) Can I request the same sitter each time I need one?
A) Yes. If they are available. You are also welcome to ask a sitter if you can contact them directly in the future.
However, if you need a sitter more than 10 hrs a week, you will need to get another sitter or find permanent child care.

Q) What happens if I have hired an SBC sitter and they do not call or show up?
A) Contact us immediately. We will make every effort to find a last minute sitter for you. However, as we are volunteer's we are not connected to the email 24/7 due to family obligations.
We will contact the sitter in question to find our what happened. No call, no shows are grounds for dismissal from the SBC.

Q) In case I do not get home until very late, can my sitter stay the night?
A) This is on a case by case basis and dependent upon the sitter and their parents being comfortable to do so.

Q) I got an auto responder from your email. What does this mean?
A) In most cases this means that we are either running short on sitters or have no more sitters available. It can and does happen. This is why it is wise to get your sitter requests in early, especially during big events such as Wing awards ceremonies, Spouses Dining In, etc.

More Q&A will be listed as they are asked.

FAQ For Teen's

Q) How do I become part of the SBC?
A) If you are Red Cross certified, email the following information to spangbabysittersclub@googlemail.com:
*Name
*Age
*Phone number
*Regularly checked email addy (this must be checked daily)
*Village or base you live
*Availability
*Are you ok with babies?
*Can you do overnights? (This means, if the parent's go out til 2am can you just stay the night and they will bring you home in the morning. Of course, this is at your discression.)

Q) How do I get a babysitting job?
A) Once a parent contact's the SBC we, the coordinator's, contact babysitters from the database for the job.
If you have accepted the job, we will give YOU the client's information. You must contact them within 24 hours and make the remaining arrangements.
This allows your information to be kept private.

Q) How much do I get paid?
A) This is the most important question when it comes to the SBC!
We feel that in today's economy everyone needs to be treated fairly.....parent's looking for sitter's and the sitter's themselves.
Therefore, the rates will breakdown like this:
1-2 children = $5 per hour each additional child = $2.50 per hour per child.
For example, you babysit 1 to 2 children for 4 hours, you will be paid $20
If you are babysitting 3 children for the same amount of time, you will be paid $30 and so on.
As parent's ourselves, we feel that the sitter's that are charging $5 per hour per child is a bit excessive. You will be hired more often sticking to our reasonable rates.
If you can not adhere to the rates we offer our clients, we can not add you to the database.

Q) Can I get paid more?
A) Technically, yes! This depends on the parent and the job.
For example, the parent's may buy pizza or slip extra money into your pay. This is a nice gesture, but not all parent's are able to do so.
Please do not ask for more than the stipulated rate.

Q) What about complaint's?
A) All complaint's will go through the SBC.

Q) If I am called and can not take the job will I be removed from the database?
A) Absolutely not! If you have plans or simply do not want to babysit that night, just let us know. We will call someone else.

Q) How much notice will I receive about a job?
A) As this program is less than a year old, this is a working issue. In most cases you will have between 2-5 days notice. However, please know that we do get last minute requests that could be only 24 hours. It is your choice to take the job, but once your receive a "Sitter Request" email, you must let us know if you CAN or CAN NOT take the job. If we have not heard from you within 24 hours of sending you the request we will move on add one strike to your name.
After three strikes for no response, you will be removed from the database.

Q) Isn't this a girl's club?
A) No way! There are tons of potential clients out there that would love to have a boy sitter. Creator/Coordinator Chrissy is just one!

Q) Do we have to pay to use the SBC?
A) Nope. We are strictly non-profit.
We created this program because we could not find sitter's ourselves. We did this to assist other parent's find the sitter's they need and advertise for hard-working teenager's like you.

Q) Do I have to have my CPR certification?
A) We require that you take the Red Cross babysitter's course ($35-call 0656561-9440). However, that does not include CPR.
If you would like to further your sitter experience, we recommend signing up for the Red Cross Advanced Babysitter course as well...it is only $5 more! The benefit to taking this extra class is that you are placed at the TOP of the roster for jobs.

Q) If, after accepting a job, I am unable to fulfill my obligation, whose responsibility is it to contact the parent's?
A) After a job is assigned and accepted, it is out of the SBC's hands unless there is a complaint.
We feel that this should be treated as a real job. And as such, you would need to contact the parent directly. No call, no shows are grounds for dismissal from the SBC.

If you have anymore questions, let us know. We will add them to the FAQ. Also, if you have friends that babysit as well, please have them contact us to be added to the database and start making some money!!
You will notice the advertisments starting to be posted. When you see them be proud that we are advertising for you!
